It really pains me to give it a thumb down since i liked the game very much back in the day. While it was a nice suprise to see a substantial update for a 14 year old game (with nice additions such as achievements), the price was increased literally tenfold (!) in my region to accompany it. That’s an absolutely ridiculous

amount of increase in proportion to the few quality of life additions essentially. While i already own the game, i do not appreciate such an opportunistic move, thus i can not recommend it at this price tag for new players.

After losing rights to Gothic series around 2008~, Piranha Bytes decided to make another Gothic-like game under new name, that game was Risen. While the world and setting are new,

the gameplay and storytelling methods are very similar to these in Gothic 2 & 3. It is a solid RPG game set in believeable world that rewards exploration. Of course, there is a bit of jank that is characteristic to all PB games. Also it might require a patch of or file modification to launch on modern PC.
